Is Child
Protective Services Out of Control?
Few agencies receive more criticism than
Child Protective Services. Some critics say they use their practically
limitless, police-state style powers to seize decent parents'
children and destroy families. Others claim that CPS does not
do enough, and that it is tragically ineffective in protecting
children from abuse.
Massachusetts attorney
Gregory Hession
represents parents whose children have been taken by CPS. Donnalee Sarda of
Justice For Children, a national
nonprofit organization of citizens concerned about children's rights and their
protection from abuse, believes that CPS is often too slow to remove children
from abusive homes.
Hession and
Sarda discussed and debated
the question "Is Child
Protective Services Out of
Control?" on His Side with
Glenn Sacks on February 20.
