A Mother's Day Tribute to Mothers Who Co-Parent

Divorce doesn't have to be a catastrophe for children. For all of the suffering and cruelty endemic to our current, sole custody/winner take-all system, there are millions of mothers and fathers who co-parent after divorce. They understand that the best parent is both parents.

On Mother's Day His Side saluted mothers who co-parent and respect and promote the bonds between their children and their ex-husbands after divorce or separation. We also discussed the holy grail of the fathers' rights movement--the rebuttable presumption of joint physical custody after divorce.

David Levy is the president of the Children's Rights Council, a Washington, DC based nonprofit dedicated to assuring a child the right to two parents, regardless of the parents' marital status. Rachel Forrest is a shared parenting activist with Fathers &Families and a living example of why co-parenting is best.

David and Rachel joined Glenn on His Side with Glenn Sacks.

To learn more about the benefits of co-parenting, see the Children's Rights Council's information on the latest joint custody research, Custody Statistics, and on the research which shows that states with more joint custody have less divorce on average.

To learn more about the rebuttable presumption of joint custody, see Wendy McElroy's In the Best Interest of the Children (7/1/03).
