Bush Betrays Male College Athletes, Caves in to Feminists on Title IX

Largely due to Title IX, over 350 men's collegiate athletic teams have been cut over the past two decades, and today there are 600 more NCAA women's programs than men's. Despite this, feminist groups such as the National Organization for Women have fiercely resisted tentative efforts by the Bush administration to make Title IX less discriminatory towards male college athletes. Recently the Bush administration backed down, agreeing to leave Title IX largely untouched.

Glenn discussed the feminist assault on men's collegiate athletics and the Bush cave-in with Charlotte Hays, senior editor of the Independent Women’s Forum, and Leo Kocher, Board President of the College Sports Council. Both the IWF and the CSC have fought for fairness for college men's athletics.

To learn more about how Title IX has hurt men's collegiate athletics, see Glenn's columns "Title IX Lawsuits are Endangering Men's College Sports" (Los Angeles Daily News, 9/7/01, Pasadena Star-News &Affiliated Papers, 10/18/01) and "California Men's College Sports Under Assault from NOW" (Los Angeles Daily Journal, San Francisco Daily Journal, 10/29/01) as well as the IWF's "Independent Women's Forum: Title IX and Fear of Feminists" and Rich Lowry's "Endorsing Gender Discrimination."
